April 27th :)

So the highlight today was probably the conversation Tiana and I had in the library. After Chautauqua presentations in Weller's (she had a sub today), we were told to read our classic books and the young adult novels we're reading (for the project, we're reading 2 Y.A. novels and 1 Classic; we each chose a classic book off of the book list and chose two Y.A. novels listed under it for our books). Some went off to practice Chautauqua presentations and Tiana and I decided to go to the library. We had more than half the class time left after the presentations, so we spent a LOT of time in the library.

When we got up there, we found one of the Y.A. novels Tiana is going to read and we also found a Rugrats book. We sat under the window that overlooks the 7th grade hall on the blue floor seats... All I will say from our conversation is "goatfish" from Rugrats... we hid it underneath Tiana's chair when, towards the end of the day, Camren came over to talk to us, followed by Mr. Warner. When we left right before the school bell rang for the end of the day, we forgot the book there and we didn't realize it until a few hours after school had ended... Throughout the whole thing at the library, there was this random 7th grade kid who'd been sent there by Mr. Mantlo, and he just sat at the table the whole entire time and probably heard most of our conversation.... Hahahaha!

I love you, Tiana! Remember: Library Convo!

Yesterday, April 26th

So yesterday was a really good day!

After Chautauqua presentations in Weller's, we just hung out. I stayed in the room with Hunter, Eric, Kathryn, and Iain while everyone else scattered out to various places in the school. We had a lot of fun, and Hunter practiced his opening and conclusion... While Kathryn and I were watching Hunter, Eric at some point ended up underneath a table and we only noticed him when he made some unearthly strangled noise. He then later tried lifting the table from underneath. Iain then proceeded to "lock" him in and surrounded the long side of the table (the other long side was up against the wall, as we'd been sitting in "horseshoe" position) with chairs before laying on top of the chairs. After this happened, Tiana came in and sat with us, watching in amusement. We talked and Eric and Iain... well, they were Eric and Iain, hopping around from chair to chair, making weird sounds, and such.

Towards the end of class, others came in, such as Michael, Jay, Steven, Cleo, Maeve, Rach, and so on (Claire was nowhere to be found) and we all kind of gathered around and talked and joked around. Iain and Michael then had a race later with the horses (foam heads on thick wooden sticks) around the room... Michael won, and Ms. Weller didn't even care what was going on. And yesterday, our class... felt good. We felt like a class, like we were close. We had so much fun! It's definitely a better day of 8th grade that I want to remember forever!

So now I'm going to go make a post on today, I guess.

April 20th

Haven't updated my blog in forever!
Well anyways, here's a quick outline of what's happened:

  • Mathcounts: went to state, our team did okay, I guess.
  • Science Fair: 2nd place in my category at districts/regionals.
  • Altrusa Art Fair: 2nd place in my category for my self portrait.
  • Orchestra: we got a superior (1) rating at festival; judges ratings were 17,18, and 19, turning out for an average of 18. Superior rating is 14 (or 13) to 19.
  • Cello lessons: quit for now.
  • Flute and Piano: May recital coming up, gotta work my butt off!
  • Chautauqua: my presentation is Monday, April 25th in Weller's room. I just edited my monologue again, and in the course of two days, I pulled the length from 7 1/2 pages to 6 pages. (Yes!)
  • Student Council: was elected onto the 8th grade council.
That's a really rough outline, as there was much more between February and now, but I'm a little short on time. Plus, I'm worried about my literacy grade. I have to get basically a 100% on EVERYTHING for the rest of the quarter if I want an A. Which I do.

Speaking of things I want to do, I want to see if I can get a box thing that shows my latest statuses on Facebook and Twitter. Mostly Twitter.

As a little notice to myself: Great Expectations. I wanted to read it for the book list thing in Literacy (I was torn between that, Jane Eyre, and The Scarlett Letter), but I decided I should do a book I know pretty well, a genre I enjoyed, and that had books I have or already read under it for the Young Adult novel. So I'm doing Jane Eyre for the classic (I read a children's edition long ago) and for the Y.A. novels listed underneath it, I'm reading A Great and Terrible Beauty (I own and have read most of it before, but never really finished it entirely, skimming over slow parts) and The Truth About Forever (I've read it and loved it).

So that's it for today, I'll try and see if I'll remember to post sometime next week after Chautauqua and all that stuff.

Isabel

Update for February

It's been an overall good month. I was (and still am) drowning in extracurriculars, homework, and other stuff, but I'm used to it. I'm pretty satisfied with the work I've done and what I've completed this month and I'm looking forward to March. I got second place in my category at the regional's science fair, and our Mathcounts team took first place at district (regionals), so we're preparing for state, which is at the University of Denver (small, small place) on March 12th.

Facebook and Twitter:
bye, bye february :) i'll miss u! but helloooo march ;) i've been waiting for u! march, april, may last days of middle school:'(

I'm looking forward to the triple sleepover, Denver, and Mathcounts State Comptition with Tiana M, one of my best friends. It's going to be stoking E-P-I-C!!! We're planning on hitting a couple malls while we're there.

March 10th is the big day, the day Tiana and I are calling "Judgement Day," hahaha! We get to know if we got accepted/waitlisted/rejected to the boarding schools we applied to, and we're so nervous! Well, Tiana's spazzing out more than I am, I'm actually being kind of chill with this, mostly because I know I won't get in. But I need to be optimistic! I think I can, I think I can, I know I can. That reminds me slightly of the Little Engine That Could! I had the last of the interviews for Groton School earlier on Thursday, the 24th.

A couple must-read books from my reading in February: Sovay, by Celia Rees, which I'm reading right now in my e-time class! Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom is amazing and there's always something to be learned from it no matter how many tiems you read it!

Oscars were awesome last night, Inception and The King's Speech tied for most Oscars last night at four each, The Social Network with three. I loved Anne Hathaway's red dress, along with Hailee Steinfeld's, too! I also like Natalie Portman's, it suited her nicely.

Catch me on Twitter IsabelS5000 http://twitter.com/#!/IsabelS5000

Well, that's a wrap, folks! I should probably get back to homework and studying for that math test I missed last Thursday!
